The Facts About Proper Home Maintenance – Part 3
In a recent interview with WisconsinRealEstate.com, we were asked a few questions regarding proper home maintenance. This is the third post in a series relating to the article.
What are the basic things in people’s houses and yards that require regular maintenance?
In the house:
To keep a house running at tiptop shape, there are several items that should be maintained on a regular basis. They include furnaces, April Aire systems, hot water heaters, water softeners (check for leaks), sump pumps, A/C units, smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries, and routine critter / pest control.
Yard:
An easy way to think about this one, is that your yard should be kept in such a way that you are only inviting the wildlife you want to see. Too often, skunks and raccoons find entrance into our homes and can wreak major damage if not defended against. To safeguard your house from unwanted raccoons; check any chimney exteriors and soffits to assure there are no entry points for these critters. Keeping skunks at bay requires a check of where the siding meets the house, and securing entrance points under the decking. Trust us, once you have a skunk as a guest, you will not soon forget it!
Is there something that you’ve seen homeowners regret they didn’t stay on top of?
Only one thing comes to mind, not having someone looking after his or her house, once something has happened. Many homeowners realize the cost of fixing the problem was far more than the cost of having a trusted person look after their property. For many clients, this is a quality of life and peace of mind issue, which is why Sontag Home Services has been a trusted partner that looks over and cares for each homeowner’s concerns for nearly 40 years!
